Phew, ok, so I didn't want to bring this gal up too much because she was on a payment plan for so long. I just sent in her final payment today and hnng, it feels so good to have her paid off XD!!

She was supposed to be paid off about a month or so ago, but I ended up getting a second black coyote in the process of getting her :

It's just a nice sigh of relief to finally have this plan finished :)! I've been eyeing this girl almost since she was listed and *AdarkerNEMISIS was nice enough to do an extended plan with her. I really can't thank you enough Nemi , for her and Judal :D!

She's still going to be out of my possession for a bit longer. She's a wet-tanned critter and will be sent to a tannery to be finished off. Unsure of her plans at the moment, but with two black coyotes now I'm sure I'll find some nice projects for them :)! Only issue as usual is money XD!!

This is terrible. I mean, it is beautiful but I just find having pelts to be tasteless. I mean people don't skin other people and pin them up on walls or lay them on furniture as decoration. I am not saying animals are "human", nor am I stating that they were killed inhumanely, I just find the act of owning their dead carcass skins to be a bit disgusting. I am not meaning to attack, but if you would, please explain why one would like this sort of thing?

I'm Native American and I'm an artist. I use these animals for artistic reference and personal spiritual reasons. I don't see it as "tasteless" to follow my culture or use the pelts for useful reasons. A pelt is not the same as a carcass, a carcass still has the meat and bones and is generally rotting. This fur has been preserved for years of use, and I feel honored to care for these creatures. That's why I like taxidermy.

I never said they were a carcass, I said "carcass skins", and since I assume the animals were dead when they were skinned, that is, indeed, what they are. I respect American Indian culture, but your people- correct me if I am wrong- wore animal furs to clothe themselves and for ritual purposes. You did mention that you use them for spiritual reasons, and I can definitely respect that. I respect life, so seeing an animal that is passed be split from itself and be put on display, to me, is a sad thing. Thank you though, for explaining your views so respectfully. I admire art, and can respect it. So again, I thank you for sharing.

I guess I just prefer a term more pleasant sounding. And yes, fur was one of the only types of clothing available to the Native American people. The hides and animal leather was also used to make their homes and the bones were used for weapons. Nothing was ever truly wasted in the tribes; everything was valued and honored. I feel the same way about my pelts. Most of the animals I purchase are "craft grade" meaning animals that aren't highly valued in the fur market and, if not mounted or collected, are either cut up for projects or thrown away. I like to preserve as much of the animals as I can so I purchase these pelts to honor their spirits and give their remains a good home while they rest in the afterlife. I have found ways to contact their spirits in my dreams and make sure the animals are comfortable in my home. Though they may be pelts now, their fur still holds some of the power and memories of he animals. To me, it's important to recognize and respect that.

And I admit, I do tend to come off as a bit hostile, but I guess it's because unlike you, many people aren't willing to listen. The truth is that I love animals, so much so that I can't even stand to see dead ones disrespected. Taxidermy is now one of the best ways to preserve an animal's beauty considering that most animal products like meat and bones are ground up and processed in factories to make other things. It's not a selfish act to do taxidermy, unless the animal is only considered a trophy mount. Taxidermist's love animals. If they didn't, they'd be in a different field. It's kinda hard to explain, but it's more so that they want to preserve the beauty of nature. If an animals dies out in the wild, it's able to rejoin the earth. but if the animal is killed and skinned, the process of skinning no longer allows that animal to return to nature. So, instead of being thrown out if a use is not found, a use was created and gives these animals a second life where they can be appreciated. A major misconception about taxidermy is that the animals are killed just to be turned into art. Most of the time, the pelts are from animals that were going to be turned into fashion items if not bought by taxidermists.

Yeah, I just Googled looking for pictures and most were dead. Also saw a picture of an albino coyote, though, so that was interesting.

They look so funny without their skins covering anything... Like they've been stretched or something.
